Hi I upgraded my computer and bought an ASUS A8N-VM CSM motherboard. I then used my 1gig of ram in my new system. The ram consists of a 512 and two 256 sticks, both are ddr.

But my problem is that it will only pick up 768mb

My mobo has 4 slots

Channel 1 Dimm_a1 and dimm_b1
Channel 2 Dimm_a2 and dimm_b2

Have I got my ram in the wrong places and could that be why its not picking up the full 1gig.

my arrangement:

A2 EMPTY - CLOSEST TO CPU (blue slot)
A1 512 (blue slot)
B2 256 (black slot)
B1 256 (black slot)

I have turned off the onboard videocard so its not that.

Could it be a bios setting i have no idea about the bios but can someone help me cos its really annoying me lol.
cheers

tested all sticks and they are working, pretty sure all chips are seated properly but I'll re check.

Does anyone else use this board with 3 ram chips.
Is there anything in the bios that could be taking the 256.
thanx
Steve

Check manual/website/etc under 'Important notes on memory configurations' & 'DDR Qualified Vendors List' to see if stick/s meet requirements. Suspect one of the 256's because 1024 - 768 = 256 :)
