pc mixer problem

for some reason I cannot crank the slider on main volume up than exactly half, then it cuts out.
can anyone explain ?
I'm using nvidia mixer

cuts out? i've not heard of that one. have you tried reinstalling the drivers?

nah I havent it took me ages to find the right ones for my mobo. I like nv mixer,
