I don't know if someone has posted this before or if this is in the right section. It is to do with PCs a Modifications (Crazy ones).

Anyway I thought this looked pretty awesome. I might give it a crack.

An old clan mate of my has done it. He says it works.

Mineral Oil is used, Some people commented on the video saying its a fake but i just pulled this from wikipedia.

Mechanical, electrical and industrial

Mineral oil is used in a variety of industrial/mechanical capacities as a non-conductive coolant in electric components as it does not conduct electricity or thermal fluid, while simultaneously functioning to displace air and water. Some examples are in transformers where it is known as transformer oil, and in high voltage switchgear where mineral oil as an insulator and as a coolant to disperse switching arcs. The dielectric constant of mineral oil ranges from 2.3 at 50 degrees Celsius to 2.3 at 200 degrees Celsius.

PS: If this is in the wrong section, Would a mod please move it to the correct place.

yea itll work, its been done before. Good luck getting a hold of the mineral oil though, iirc its pretty hard to get ahold of lots of it, and its expensive. Vegetable oil also works, but wont look nice and clear etc.

Its a laxative for horses, just ask a vet. Vegetable oil will go off.

Biggest problem with this is that it seeps long the wire insulation, so you get puddles of oil on your desk, under your monitor and so forth. Oh, and weight/replacing parts.

I'm tempted to try doing this... but how long would the pc last?

What about temps etc?...

Wouldn't the density of the mineral oil burn out the motors on the fans for the PSU, GFXs cards etc?...

you dont use fans on the cards, you can either have it just all full of stuff, or you can have it all full of stuff, with closed loops with blocks on the hotter parts. Thats how that "oil cooled PC" that you can buy pre-made is done.

Pc will last forever if the oil remains unconductive. Keeping it sealed would be a good idea.

Temps will be good for the motherboard, not so good for the processor. Combined with watercooling would work very well.

Fans spin. They spin slowly, but they do spin, and they do so at least a year with no signs of failing. Don't put the hard drive in the oil, it has a hole in it
