Hi

I've recently purchased a Xbox360 and the first thing i've done is play it on my 28" Sony Widescreen TV Which can run up to 100mhz. I played one game called Gears Of war but the text was so blurred that I ended up getting a migraine.

So now I have to go HD, I currently have a 19" Samsung 193V monitor which I'm going to try when the cables eventually arrive.

My question is will playin it on my monitor be as good as Buying a proper HD rdy TV, the one I had in mind is the Samsung Bordeaux LE26R74BDX 26" as my budget falls within £500.

Is it worth paying out all that dosh, or Will my monitor I use for pc do just as well.

Thanks

Although not quite in your budget, its possible the BenQ FP241W really might be worth having a look at and possibly saving a bit more towards given its capabilities for both.

Your monitor won't do as well as a HDTV because it's a lot smaller and it's not widescreen. However it doesn't hurt to try it. You do miss out not having a widescreen display with the 360 though.

I know Gears of War looks miles better on my 32" LG HDTV than on my 20" Dell TFT, even though they're both widescreen and the Dell has a higher resolution. The HDTV has much better colours and scales the image better. Plus obviously it's miles bigger.

As the other guys said, you wont get as good a picture on your 4:3 monitor as on a HDTV, but it will work quite well, and saves a lot of money! The XBOX 360 supports 4:3 resolutions such as 1280x960 & 1024*768. The maximum resolution it supports for monitors is 1366*768. I have been playing the XBOX 360 through my Viewsonic VX2025WM and it looks great as good as any HDTV I have seen - here's some pictures I took earlier. Note that the Viewsonic scales up the image to fill the screen, which is 1680*1050 - but as you can see the text is very clear.

Warning - these are 2Mb each - I tried compressing them but it reduces the quality and gives a false impression of the picture quality.

You've seen crap TVs then as the 360 looks miles better on my 37" TV than on my NEC 20WGX, which is better than the viewsonic.

Yeah they were older Samsung models - I have no doubt that a good 37" HDTV looks better than a measly 20" Monitor overall. However the OP is talking about getting a 26" HDTV which I doubt is much better than a good monitor and is a lot of money to spend given he already has a decent TV. Just not something I would recommend anyway.
