Hi all,

Have we gotten to a point yet where a PC monitor can reproduce game console visuals with the same competence as a 1080p television? I remember when I first got my PS4, purported gaming monitors with extremely low refresh rates and insane contrast ratios would still produce fairly crap, grainy, poorly detailed images which were just absolutely blown away by a HDTV - which is why I got myself a Sony Bravia. But I'm SO SICK of having a TV for the sole purpose of gaming on my PS4; I'd rather have a PC monitor.

Does anything fit the bill?

Cheers!

It depends what kind of image you want. I find that TVs have much more "in your face" colour and blacks as that is what normal people view as high quality. Monitors are much better at quality at very small pixel- level, eg small writing on monitors looks much better than on a TV and the boundaries of pixels are smoother. Monitors produce a smooth image.

I personally am tempted to get a 32" tv as a monitor.

I have a Samsung 32D850D from here and I love it. That said, I haven't gamed on a telly in years so take that with a grain of salt.

I have 2 Acer Predator XB270H 27 one g-sync and one non g-sync that I also use for my ps4

Acer Predator XB270H 27

my only complaint is the colours are a bit washed out, and yes its a bit overkill but its also my second screen on my PC, and the the two side by side look great.

afaik gaming monitors have higher refresh rates than tv's especially the 3D ones.

quality again comes down to the panel. you cannot compare a £90 monitor with a £900 tv.

spend £300-£500 on a proper gaming monitor

Depends on the panel technology.

TN panels which is most common aren't the best, poor viewing angles, not great colour reproduction.

IPS panels are nice but are usually a bit more expensive.

That said a good plasma beats all but you are generally left with burn in from static items on screen such as the hud.

As for refresh rates anything above 60hz is pointless for a console and super low input lag surely won't be a big issue with the slower controls of a console pad?

Do g-sync monitors even work with consoles? G-sync won't actually be working though will it ?

I use a Dell P2414H for my PS4

I use this

Asus VG248QE 24" Widescreen 144Hz 1ms Gaming LED Monitor - Black

the out of the box settings are crap but there is a hack for lightboost as well as a lot of different user settings on the net which fix the issues in terms of colours/brightness.

After tweaking it, it's a fantastic screen.

Bought it to prevent image retention on the plasma as well as to replace my current pc monitor. So I use it for both PC and PS4.

no g-sync will not work and even to get a connection is a pain as they only have display port connections, I have a g-sync and non g-sync that has hdmi and display port.
