PC needs a new online FPS?

It's really not going to be to everyone's taste, but I'm looking forward to Left4Dead. Doubt it will have major longevity, but it has potential to be fun in the short to medium term.

(and then they wonder why theyve not had a game thats been popular online for any length of time since quake 3).

To be fair though, id have only designed two games since Quake 3 (not counting the expansion), both of which were primarily focussed on singleplayer (D3 in particular).

Nobody wants to play any unique FPS games like TFC was

TFC was hardly unique; it was basically (Quakeworld) Team Fortress ported to Halflife with a few updates, although obviously over time it started to be slowed down a bit by the physics limitations Valve imposed.

I think CS:S just needs a few noticable updates like a new map pack or game modes (vip?).

I remember watching that video on GameTrailers and Valve were saying that CS:S is still their main priority.

If Battlefeild: Bad company were coming to the PC, i'de be looking forward to that. Mainly for the hugely destructible environment. Last i read though we weren't getting it.. so erm..

Is there anything out that can really replicate a large scale battle from an FPS perspective? I mean a lot more than 50 players.. I'de love to see something like that.

WWII Online. A Simulation, and much deeper than Battlefield, but some people like both.

2142 or bf2 had some old files left on the disc that were pulled apart etc and the engine was actually capable of 128man - actually you can have bot battles with thousands cant you? It would really stress servers though, cant imagine pings etc and 'reg' would be too great.
On a lan this would be different though, but the server would need to be quite meaty.

+1 for wwiiol. If you get into it though it can be addictive. Addictive in the way you play so much because you want your side to win rather then you want to be better then everyone else though.

I mean i've been playing in clans since the dawn of time, from game to game!

CS:S atm is good but it's losing itself community has stopped growing (competetive wise) and if anything is decreasing i myself have been playing COD4 since release. Ye it's alright but i can't see myself playing it in 2 years time.

What do you expect to be the next major online fps game? Surley there has to be a diamond in the rough? or are we going to be waiting for a year or two.

hahaha yer ok, [pffft] Halo 3 and the two other wates of space are gash console ports that were and are gash on console, IMO
