Ive started to upgrade my boys computer parts so i bought him a second had Corsair HX650 so he could use my old HD 4870 graphics card which was working last time i used it.

Now im getting random shut downs, but when it shut downs it and i start it again im not getting any thing on my screen but the cpu fans are spinning etc . Sometimes i have even had to take graphics card out and put a pci graphics card to get it to boot

Im getting the problems when i put the 4870 card in

Im thinking its either a heat or a driver problem

Its driving me nuts any help would be appreciated

Thxs

Try booting to safe mode see what happens because the system doesn't load the video driver. Have you tried the lastest Catalyst drivers?

What is the 4870 replacing?

It's probably the board not liking the graphics card. Asrock boards were well known for this when the pci-e 2.0 cards were released. If I remember right that board only has pci-e version 1.0. It's a terrible board so may be worth checking the bay for a cheap but decent 775 board.

Im thinking the same as when i put a pci-e card in it starts playing up, but when it shuts down what causes it not to tun on again i have to turn it off unplug psu wait then leave it plug it in then it starts again

Does anyone think it could be the cpu
