Hey guys,

I have a self built rig that is doing some weird things. Currently doesn't give me any screen.

The first time i encoutered this through a weird screen before crashing on me. It was a gray/green-sh screen with tiny lines. I restarted it and nothing weird happened it just worked fine.

Second time around same screen, this time didn't boot on me until the next day. Which was weird.

Shortly after that it happened again and i changed the GPU to another PCI slot and it worked like a charm, but shortly after that it ended up doing the same.

I noticed that the temps were just fine. Nothing too crazy. The GPU has been used for over 2 years.

Also, the GPU fans probably move once a 3 seconds. If i want to shut off i have the hold the button for 3 seconds which makes me wonder whats going on.

Should i be buying a new GPU or am i missing something big.

Specs:

AMD FX8350
CORSAIR VENGEANCE 2X4GB 1600MHZ
GIGABYTE 990X
MSI R9 270X 4GB

Thanks,

Josh

Quite odd behaviour

Have you tried the simpler stuff such as trying a different driver set for GPU, updating the BIOS, clearing motherboard CMOS?
Also do you by any chance have a spare PSU or a friend that can lend you one? Is this behaviour under load or at any time?
What PSU are you running?

Yeah, first time it was. After that it happened it happened without anything heavy running. And the final time it was under load, i was playing Just Cause 3 i was on and off throughout the day and nothing funny happened before hand.

There is no screen atm. Am i supposed to run that through something external?

Oh damn, sorry missed the fact there is no screen

As there is no screen certainly points to the GPU - try reseating RAM also, as without functioning RAM there will be no screen
I assume fans etc power on but simply no screen display
Just remember to try another screen or even TV if you have one and a different video cable
Did your motherboard or case come with a speaker? This will allow you to hear what the motherboard thinks is wrong with it and maybe help to troubleshoot

The RAM was just reseated into the new motherboard. Everything went smoothly.

No speaker, not with case or motherboard. Just some SATA cables and sorts.

As for the screen, just tried it on my TV with different cables and again no screen.
Everything is powered all the fans spin.

Ok, to avoid potentially wasting money on a new card I would get a 4 pin motherboard speaker first as they can come in quite useful even in future builds - they are only a couple of quid and with reference to the manual if the motherboard gives you a code you can troubleshoot further
Your GFX card will usually come with a 3 year warranty also - maybe try and get the ball rolling with the manufacturer or ideally retailer you bought it from and try to RMA it as I'm pretty sure it is at fault by the sounds of it

If you can wait for the speaker to arrive that would be ideal
Might even turn out to not give you any information at all but hopefully it does
If you need the PC ASAP I'd go ahead and get yourself a new GPU

So typical that it fails just outside warranty
Perhaps contact manufacturer they might give you a discount on a new card out of goodwill

Not giving me a beep. However, the current motherbord is new. Which means i didn't install ****.

Would be logical i would be getting some screem of indication? Not even a beep...

Very odd... now it is making me suspect the motherboard
What board were you using before this new one? I guess the GPU worked fine in that?

Msi 970 was the board i used before this one. The GPU didn't work in either of the PCI slots. After that i went out to buy a new one and the same exact issue.
