The PC i built my son for Christmas isn't booting....after one day :/

PSU seems fine, but no POST screen, no signs of HDD activity.

Tried restting the CMOS but no joy.

I was starting to think motherboard, but the LED is giving the code C1 which according to the manual means a RAM issue?

I'm going to shut my PC down & try my RAM see if that helps. Otherwise....i'm pretty stuck.

Just wondered if anyone on here could think of anything?

The board is an old Epox 8RDA+, running an Athlon XP 2800+, 512Mb Geil Value DC, Hyper Type R PSU, 6600GT (AGP), WLAN PCI card.

TIA!

Right i've just tried a stick of RAM from my PC (which i know is working fine) & still getting same code on LED. I tried the RAM in all 3 slots.

Manual in PDF format can be found HERE if you fancied a gander.

Cheers
Scott

Strip the system down, just have, motherboard, cpu, one memory chip and the graphics card plugged in, still does'nt work, try reseating the graphics card, still does'nt work, try different graphics card.

also when you say "no sign of HDD activity", do you mean just no led activity or no power to hard drive at all, if no power then try different PSU.

Unplugged everything bar mobo, CPU, 1 stick RAM & g.card, same error code.

Tried the RAM in all the slots & tried the 2nd stick in all the slots, no joy.

Reseated g.card, no joy.

Tried different g.card, no joy.

The HDD's a Maxtor (i.e. very noisy), so you can clearly hear it when it's booting.

It's just really odd, as i've had this PC running all evening, every evening for the last week or so whilst i've been configuring it. And it's been fine :(

The LED gives C1 straight away every time you power it on.

Ummmm, does'nt look good then, it's pain but it's worth just trying another PSU just in case, also take out the cpu and give the socket a good blow and then reseat it,

we know its not graphics card or memory as you've tried yours in it so once you've eliminated the PSU then it's either motherboard or CPU, I'd guess at motherboard but that's becuase they have a higher failure rate than CPU's.

Here are a couple of links to people with simular C1 error problems using the same motherboard

edit - looking more around the net it seems to be a common fault with the cap's on that motherboard.

Thanks for the links mate.

Tbh i bought all the components 2nd hand & have ALWAYS been concerned about this board (not a great fan of Epox).

I'll swap out the PSU with mine & check out the caps.

Gonna be a nightmare finding a replacement board over Xmas with MM being closed to new threads. My son keeps asking when his PC will be fixed. Bless him, he's only 5 :(

Thanks again
