I've posted this on another forum with not much luck. I'll paste the important bits here.
Hi, My computer kept shorting out as soon as I turned the power button on. And the following is the only problem that is identical to mine. The thread that this was posted on went dead after he posted that. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be?
'My computer's fans will all spin up if I do NOT plug in the 4-pin 12V plug next to the CPU. Of course the computer does not boot up either. BUT, if I DO plug it in then it seems to short out and nothing will startup. At one point I shifted my PSU around and everything booted up into winxp64. After arranging the cords and the PSU again it shorts out again. I've retried everything I did before but can not get it to startup. It shorts immediately upon hitting the power button.
What would cause it to short out only when the 12V 4 pin connector is plugged in?'

Yeah, thats what i'm thinking. the case could be shorting it out from behind. Really didn't want to do this, but I guess I'll take the motherboard out and double check everything. Keep the ideas coming and I'll keep you posted. =]
Okay, set up the PC out of the case on a box. Still shorting out.
Edited:
Now i've put it back to together, it's staying on. Not plugged it into a screen as of yet though to see what is actually happening.
Wish me luck

Nope, moved it back over to my desk, connected the Power and Monitor and i cuts out after about 1 second.
Okay, last post before I take it into a PC shop tomorrow. It was working fine, I switched it off, plugged in the SATA Harddrive, switched it back on again, and it just cut off.
