Hey,

Yeah i have read the FAQ's at the top but nothing strikes me as being related to my problem.

As of 1030am this morning, pc was working fine. Got in at 4pm this afternoon, tried to boot up and got message "
boot failure, insert system disk" or something along those lines. This has happened before and it turned up to be a cable had come loose as after re-firming all connections and rebooting everything was fine. Sooo did that again and this time it booted, took me to choose options screen. Selected safe mode and system restored to 24 hours previous just to be on the safe side.

Ok so pc reboots again, get the xp loading screen with the blue bars and now just hanging there again. Gah i said. Basically i'm stuck in limbo if i want to use safe mode with networking or whatever, i can, that's how i'm here but i can't use my DVD drive due to the fact i'm in safe mode?

Any ideas AT ALL??? Checked device manager and everythings fine. Really depend on being able to use my DVD drive so any advice much appreciated. I just cannot understand why it will not boot in normal mode.

System spec
AMD Xp3800
1 gig ddr pc3200 ram

Asus A8ne-fM mobo
Maxtor 160gig sata hd

windows xp

Thanks in advance

If the hard drive connection has worked loose a couple of times, it is possible there has been some minor corruption of files that now prevents windows form booting properly. Best way to test this theory is to boot off your windows cd, hit enter to install windows, then press r when it detects a version of windows already installed. It will repair the installation with files from the cd, all your programs should work, all your files will definately be in place (as long as they have not bee corrupted).

Only potential problem here is that if memory serves, windows can be picky about what cd you put in, ie if u have a vanilla xp disk, or a service pack 1 disk, but your installation is sp2 then it may not play ball. Only way to get around that is to slipstream a windows disk to sp2.
