Firstly, I'm not even sure if this is right section to post this in and if it isn't then I apologise.

I built a new system in september and up until now everything was going fine. When I was in the middle of watching a video of youtube earlier, all of a sudden I got a blue screen which I didn't completely see but I think it may have been irql_not_less_or_equal. So I try and turn it on again but it doesn't load and I assumed it may have just overheated since it's been so warm here lately.

After a while I turn it back on and it loads, I checked the hardware monitor in the BIOS for temps and saw the CPU was only at 47 and assumed it must be fine now. I go back on youtube to continue watching the video and it starts to get some slowdown and then bluescreens again, but this time with
bugcode_usb_driver.

That was the last time I was able to even get past POST. Now when I run the machine, the monitor doesn't even get a signal and the red DRAM led stays lit. If you try turning the pc on after it being switched off at the mains, it turns on, turns itself off and then instantly back on again. I've tried running the machine with nothing but the monitor connected and also have tested all of my ram individually.

Specs are:
Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail
MSI GeForce GTX 470 1280MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
Patriot Viper 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Low Latency Triple Channel
Corsair Force 40GB F40 2.5" SATA-ll Solid State Drive
Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply
Samsung SpinPoint F4 EcoGreen 2TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM

have you tested them in different slots.

Switched them into the other 3 slots and it worked, thanks ^^

out of curiosity, any idea what would have caused that?

EDIT: Just got the blue screen again. Spoke too soon. BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER again.. and lost picture again

EDIT2: This time I got up to "Starting Windows" before I got another blue screen. MACHINE_CHECK_EXEMPTION.. However this seems to have been a one off since after I rebooted, it loaded to desktop but almost straight away blue screened with BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER

EDIT3: Occasionally going back to not even getting past POST and when I do, it either blue screens half way with MACHINE_CHECK_EXEMPTION or when I get to desktop with BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER

Hello yado glad it worked for a bit

imo you have either faulty ram or a faulty board.

most likely faulty board as the ram works in the other 3 slots

have you had a power outage recently or something similar?

please dont buy new board or ram based on what ive said let a few more people come into the thread and give thier opinions

Other things to try,

You moved the three sticks of RAM about, but try using one at a time, then two etc.

Use a different SATA cable for the SSD.

spent 14 hours backing up data yesterday so wasn't able to test much but while it was backing up, I made a Ubuntu live cd and it doesn't freeze or bluescreen on it. Going to secure erase the SSD today and reinstall Win 7.

Would it be safe to assume that if it still freezes/bluescreens after reinstall that it's a faulty SSD?

Try reseat the CPU and use 1 working RAM.

Reseat GPU and if the PC boots, press F8 and select Last Known Good Config that will run the last working hardware profile.

Hope this helps!

Ok, so I secure erased the SSD and then re-installed windows 7 (formatting both SSD and 2TB Spinpoint). Everything was looking fine for a while, no freezing or blue screen while I download/install windows updates until after a restart for an update, I can't move the mouse and within seconds, bluescreen with MACHINE_CHECK_EXEMPTION and then anytime I tried to load to desktop after that, I shortly after got BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER.

Eventually it went back to not loading POST the majority of the time and even freezing while in the BIOS if I did get past POST. I secure erased again and went for a shower while reinstalling. When I came back it was frozen on the screen where you enter name/computer name and I had to turn the system off at the mains and after turning it back on and getting to that stage again, got everything entered in and again while installing windows updates, another bluescreen although this time I got:

The system encountered an uncorrectable hardware error
Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x00000124 (0x00000000000000000000, 0xFFFFFA8006778028, 0x00000000B8000000, 0x0000000000800E0F)

I'm pretty sure now that it is either a problem with the SSD or the motherboard. As suggested, I also changed the SATA cables and I still have the same problems

EDIT: I've been trying to get back on to retrieve the minidump from the error, but as it stands, I can't even POST
