I really need some help here.

i had an issue with a website making my google chrome browser behave really pathetically which resulted in me being unable to close the browser or do anything else on my computer so i ended up having to do a hard reset.

when the pc booted, there was no image on the screen using my usual gfx card. It booted normally apart from this but with no on screen display. i turned it off and unplugged the gfx card and tried the onboard gfx which worked fine. it all loaded up correctly. I then tried another gfx card in the pci-e slot and again nothing. could the pci-e slot have gotten damaged or something?

what type of motherboard do you have?

if its a z68 based motherboard with virtu making sure you have virtu set to PEG

other then that without knowing your mobo and gfx card people wont be able to try and help :P

My guess is, during the hard reset, the bios settings were altered.

Go into BIOS, reset defaults (or optimum settings, or whatever your bios calls them), and then check to see the PCI-e graphics slot is enabled and given priority over integrated graphics.

its a gigabyte mobo....cant remember off the top of my head which one right now. will look when im at home. one of the gfx cards is an ati radeon X1950 xt master card (this was the second one i tried as there was a weird sound like a fan wasnt playing nice in my Geforce. (the card type escapes me at present, however i know its a gainward (sorry it isnt much help atm)).

A friend stated that the south bridge chip could be damaged. could this be true?

update on info asked for. the gfx card was an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285
The mobo is a Gigabyte, GA-M55plus-S3G
ive checked the bios and it appears normal. everything is set as it should be. on another note, if my gfx card is installed my dvd drive seems to try to load a lot. it cant be the psu being low powered as its a 1000w psu.
As far as the south bridge chip goes, wif that went wouldnt that effect all other pci slots too?
