PC not posting, post error beeps

Hi guys, though i would ask your opinion on the fault i am getting when turning the PC on.

I've got the motherboard out on the desk, with nothing else connected other than the cpu / ram / graphics card...so no hdd or cdrom etc.

When i turn the comp on I get one long beep followed by two short beeps.I believe this is the graphics card? Or maybe memory, although memory is normally 3 long beeps.

Ive tried the ram in all slots, without the ram installed i get the same beeps, so im presuming the cpu is working as it can atleast give me post beeps...

However if i remove the grahpics card i still get the error beeps...Ive tried the card in both pci-e slots, and tried both connectors on my psu. Same error beeps...

My specs are:

X2 4400+
2 x 1GB Gskill zx series
ASUS a8n-sli premium
X1900xtx 512mb
And the psu is a seasonic 600w.

The only changes ive made to the system is setting up a profile for ati tool..So it uses the correct clocks, and i also replaced the stock hsf as the stock one sounds like a jet engine gone wrong.

I have been overclocking the cpu lately, but i was getting the error beeps a while before i even started overclocking the cpu so it cant reallly be that.

Any ideas? :) Thanks in advance.
 
Yep, cards seated fine, as i said ive tried it in both slots now. Also tried both connections on the psu.

I dont have another psu at hand so i cant really test that...Might see if I can take it into work tommorow and try something there, i believe we have a few cards laying around i can try.

I might try removing the HR-03 and put the stock cooler on....see if that makes a difference? Highly unlikely though. Oh I have loosned the screws on the cooler to see if that made a difference, nothing so far though.
 
Pretty much yeah...

Basically it would give me the error beeps (once i plugged the speaker in)...Id turn the system off, turn it back on, then it would work...Or sometimes i reseated the graphics card then it would work...

Come Thursday night, it gave me the usual error beeps, and it hasent worked since.

I would try a 2-molex to pci-e splitter...but i dont have one at home atm, ill get one tommorow from work.
 
Yeah from the psu :)

There two connections on the one cable, neither make a difference.

It's not an sli psu so there isnt another cable.
 
Nah i havent clocked it at all i believe...I just followed the setup guide for ATI tray tools on here for the profiles....

Well, it doesent work in either pci-e slot...Soooo.

I've cleared cmos on the motherboard, that didnt help.

I wouldnt have thought I could RMA it as ive replaced the stock cooler already =/

Really dont fancy shelling out for a graphics card :(

Although, i have found a "512MB Power Color RX1950 XT Arctic Cooling PCI-E(x16) Mem 1400MHz GDDR3 GPU 625MHz" for £136 ish inc vat...Which i believe is better than my current card / pretty much the same.
 
Yeah...Well, i always had a keyboard plugged in initially when the beeps first started.

So I dont believe it will be that, but ill try it for the sake of it.

Ill try and take my moherboard bundle into work tommorow, try a different card from there if theres one available.
 
just thought i would update....The graphics card works fine in another system...My system still wont post with a simple x300 card in.

So im begining to believe its either my board thats broken...? Or maybe the cpu, but the cpu is doubtfull as its giving me post error beeps.

Any more ideas?
 
Ah yes, think i read your thread actually.

Im pretty sure its the motherboards pci-express link or something thats just decided to go caput on me...Cause the card works in a different system.

I'm hopefully going to try my mates 3500+ in the system this evening if he can be bothered to let me.

Sadly we dont have any stock of 939 stuff here at work so i cant even try a diff cpu or motherboard.

I get post error beeps, do you have a speaker attached?
 
Hello again.

I replaced my motherboard with an Asus A8n-sli motherboard (The one with the chipset fan..eeeeeeek!)

And everything works fine. I suspected it was the board due to me being able to get error beeps, and the fact my graphics card worked elsewhere.

So it seems I somehow either knackered my pci-e bus or something, or the northbridge went caput somehow??? Heat maybe as the previous one was passive.

Although I might replace this fan with like the HR-05 heatsink or something? noth sure yet.

Just letting you know how things have gone. Hopefully they stay ok :)

Yeah I kinda know they can take a fair amount. Just weird how the comp stopped working after a while.

Ah well, hopefully this one holds out :) Put the northbridge fan on a fanmate to quieten the thing, temps havent dropped, and i can hardly here it now, ill just keep an eye on the thing :)
