I've never had a problem with this before, I've just reinstalled windows as I got a new motherboard.

Went to update my ipod and get it to recognise this pc and its just not seeing it?? I put it in the dock and it charges but no recognition of any ipod, I even installed ipod updater which I normally don't and thats saying there is no ipod connected too.

Any ideas? Any but of my device manager I can fiddle with?

Motherboard is an asus a8n sli premium for the record.

Have you looked around the bios to make sure the USB ports are properly activated? Installed the motherboard/USB drivers?

Edit - Just seen your reply, but that applies top Firewire too.

Yep, it's 1394. Do you have any other firewire devices you could use to perhaps ensure that it's working right? Just helps track it down to either a hardware problem or some software conflict.

There's some fairly useful help pages about this on the apple site if I remember correctly.

Few suggestions:
Reset ipod (hold down centre button and top button I think)
Try a different firewire port (assuming you have more than one)
Make sure you have the latest version of itunes
Ipod software is up to date (I know you already said you did this)

ok, reset ipod
reinstalled itunes a fair few times
installed ipod manager
installed new firewire port

Results the same?? Does this mobo have a problem with firewire perhaps? Any way I can check in the device manager that it can actually see the firewire ports?
