Hi guys,

I'm having issues with my pc starting up after making no changes to it that I'm aware of. Sometimes when I turn it on I can hear the windows start music and can log on (nothing is shown on screen, no display picking up signal). Other times it sounds like it is starting up (fans spinning, hard drives and cd drives spinning up) but then it does nothing. It you hit the power button, it turns off straight away, like if you power it off turning boot.

Anyone have any ideas of how I can work out what the issue is. I do have an alternative pc to try parts in but I'm not sure if it works tbh, which I don't think it'll help with diags.

Cheers

Corsair HX 520W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
150gb Raptor drive
Corsair XMS2 2GB (4x1GB) DDR2 6400C4 TwinX Dual Channel (TWIN2X2048-6400C4G)
Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (overclocked to 2.66GHz) (1066FSB)

Some other drives and a big heat sink, sorry about the format I'm on my phone typing and copying this.

Cheers

I'd pull out all your power connectors & give them a blow out/clean. Then i would check the Mobo mounting screws to see if any are loose & i would also see if the weight of the heatsink is pulling the mobo off the mounts.
Whilst you're in there pull out your ram & clean the slots & do any other maintenance you can think of in the way of checking wiring is not stressed etc
Also check all your connectors to the rear & monitor & re seat everything.
All i can think of at this hour.

Ok I've pulled out my graphics card, RAM and all power connectors and gave them all a good clean to make sure nothing was stopping the connection. No change, still powers up but even after leaving it 10 minutes, I can be powered off (this only happens for me during startup). All connections are correct and none are loose.

Could it be that the motherboard has packed up?

Any further ideas or is it likely that the mobo has failed?

If so I'm going to force myself to get a new cpu/mobo/ram/gpu combo :D

Ok I think I'm going to pass my PC over to my mum and go with an upgrade. I'll buy a new PSU anyway as the one that she currently uses does not have long enough cables.

Thanks for all your suggestions, will see what the issue is when I start swapping out components.
