PC not switching on

Hi.
I'm hoping one of the clever bods can shed some light on an Issue I'm having.

About once a week, when I go to use my PC it's as if it's died. The motherboard LEDs are on but the power switch does nothing. The PC gets used normally every day, but this problem persists on a regular basis.
The only way to rectify it is to take the coin type battery out of the motherboard and wait a minute then replace it.
Okay I thought, duff battery. But no, I replaced the old one with a brand new one last week, but today the problem has arisen again.

It's an overclocked Q6600 on and Abit IP35 pro mobo with 8 gigs of ram. It was bought from overclockers about 4 years ago as a pre overclocked system. Last year I had to lower the overclock from 3.4 to 3.0ghz as it was becoming unreliable. I left all the bios settings the same as OCUK had them except lowering the FSB speed.

So, does anyone have any ideas?

Try flashing the bios to a newer version?

Download the latest ones and see what the mobo can do to update.

Is anything shorting within the system?

Hi Anox.
Thanks for the reply.
Seems odd that it's only remedied removing and replacing the battery though. Perhaps I'll strip it down and rebuild at the weekend just to make sure there's no shorts or loose components. I'll have a look at flashing the BIOS too.
Thanks again.

It could be the PSU. A dodgy power supply will do this, you will get fan kick and the mobo lights come on but not get past POST. Have you a spare?

Certainly worth trying a BIOS flash, just remember to take note of your OC setting first.
