my pc isn't working. i put it on sleep by accident today, and it wouldn't wake up. so i turned it off at the wall and then left it for a few hours. when i came back to it, and tried to turn it on, the fans and lights came on, but nothing else happened. so i hit the reset button it started up, then it turned off and turned on again but it still doesn't work. theres no signal getting to the monitor, the keyboard and mouse aren't coming on, whats up with it? all the fans are running and the mother board light is on.
its a custom built quad core, running windows 7 and its less than a month old.

please help

i don't have another psu, but i'm gunna ask around some of my friends see if i can borrow one. i can't even access the bios, because the machine only spins its fans, no signal is sent to the monitor, keyboard or mouse. the hard drive light doesn't flash either.

Thanks

What mobo is it? Most have a clear CMOS button somewhere, you should try that before lugging components in and out.

i done the samething yesterday all i did was reset the cmos and it ok ater that! good luck!

This is exactly the problem I have, I'm going to ring them up tomorrow as it's still under guarentee. The computer turns on, the fans are on and it's lit up, but the keyboard, mouse, and monitor aren't getting anything. The fan just spins like it's processing something crazy. So there's a CMOS button? What is that? If I can fix it myself now that would be great.

Consult your motherboard manual to find the cmos clear/reset button or jumper dependent on board

I took the battery out the motherboard for 1 minute, used a screwdriver in the pins for a few seconds and there is no difference. Not sure why doing stuff like that can solve the problem when there isn't any power going to it.

Some settings are stored in battery backed RAM, by removing the power to it, the settings are erased. If any of those settings were dodgy then the problem goes away.
I assume you did it with the PSU switched off :)

You took the battery out, but did you move the clear cmos jumper? There may be enough capactitance to keep the cmos setings alive for a minute despite lack of a battery. Sometimes you have to leave the jumper off for 5 minutes, depends how they've implemented the cmos power line.

OK. most mobo's, if not all, don't require a CMOS battery in order to boot but they won't boot if the battery is in-situ but dead. One of the symptoms of all the fans and no lights is a dud battery. The BIOS is not being activated. Try booting without it just to take your checks one stage further. You may have been too quick with the screwdriver...
Don't assume the battery is OK because "it's not very old"...;)
