My aunt has just given me her pc, saying it wont turn on.
I opened it up, and checked all the leads were connected and pushed down properly. they were.
When i plug it in, a little light illuminates on the psu, so i would say thats fine.
But when i push the power button, nada, dead as a doornail, no fan spins, bios, nothing.

is there a way a can check the mobo and power switch leads with a multimeter?
i have one, but dont know how to use it

If there is no power going to fans or anything like that its more likely going to be your
PSU before its your motherboard.

Can you not take the PSU out and connect a fan to it and then do the paperclip trick to
see if the PSU power up the fan if not its the PSU.

As Shadz said, I would be looking at the PSU first. Connect it to a fan and make sure it's running well before tinkering with anything else :)
