Hi all,

Looking for some advice on a sporadic yet annoying problem. My PC will sometimes not boot up unless all USB devices (KB/M, headphones etc) are removed. Removing them, booting and plugging them back in works fine but is obviously not ideal.

This happens rarely and seems to have no apparent pattern so I wondered if anyone has advice on where to start?

Windows 10
i5 4690k
Asus Z97 - A
Gskill RipjawX 1866Mhz
Asus Strix 970GTX
600w PSU (can't remember the brand but it was a good one, although it's old now).

How far through booting do you get to?
Does it start to load windows or just stops before the BIOS even get's going?

Board update would probably be my go to to start with if it's not even reaching windows, if it is then making sure the USB drivers are correct.

Sorry, should have been clearer. The PC doesn't attempt to boot up at all until all of the USB devices are removed. Pressing the ON button does nothing. Thanks for the suggestions :)

Used to have this issue with my Z87 board. Never fourn a solution beyond unplugging said USB device. Never had it with X99 though.

Try going in to your BIOS and check the Legacy USB settings,
(advanced/USB configuration)
Try changing from auto to enabled or disabled.

Also try changing the xHCI settings from auto/smart auto to enabled.
