Hi

Figured i'd rebuild my pc as it's currently losing signal to monitor and pretty out of date anyway. i've ruled out my gfx card so will probably keep that until pascal!
Budget is as little as possible without compromising. The motherboard is cheap but gets good reviews and overlocks ok. I need a new psu because i suspect that's what's wrong wit my current pc.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £694.92
(includes shipping: £0.00)

I will probably get another 2 sticks of ram for quad channel later.

Thanks guys

If you're going down the X99 route, don't go with a dual channel kit of 3200MHz RAM. For only a little more, you can get a quad-channel kit designed to work on X99. Getting RAM above 3000MHz stable on X99 can be difficult, so I'd suggest you'd be better off getting a 16GB quad channel kit at 2400-3000MHz.

This is what I'm using and I've had no issues so far:

You've chosen a solid PSU but if you're only going to using a single graphics card, you could get either the 650W or 750W model for less.

You could also get this CPU/board bundle:

It's cheaper than getting the MSI board and 5820K separately and I'm pretty sure the Gigabyte X99-SLI has the OC socket, which will make stabilising the RAM and CPU OC easier.

Looks good thanks, the gigabyte board looks nice, will order this weekend most likely. i took some of my ram out the current rig and is behaving itself for now but will probably start crashing again in a week like when i put my old gfx card in and it worked for like a week, dunno what the hecks going on! time to put the i7 920 to rest!

Any further advice before i order!? the cheap as possible kinda went a bit out of the window lol, the gaming 5p looks cool because of extra audio and lights! and seasonic platinum psu for extra efficiency!

Are you running just a single graphics card. If so, then an 860W platinum unit is way more than you need. You'd probably get away with a good 550W unit.

The onboard sound on the Gaming 5P is very good IMO. It's near-enough on a par with the Soundblaster Z, which I'm not using at the moment.

This seasonic unit would be more than ample and is ~£110:

This is the PSU I've got and it's great, but you don't really need 750W (and neither do I):

If you really want an 850W PSU, then this will do the job and is the big brother of mine:

TBH, the efficiency savings you make with a platinum rated PSU aren't worth the price increase between that and a Gold-rated unit.

As crapler8 says, double check that it's not a bad cable. There's no point in replacing your system if it's due to a bad video cable!

A 650W PSU is more than enough for a single graphics card in fact 550W should be enough but I recommend at least 650W. Power supplies aren't nearly as efficient at too high or too low loads so I always aim for the midpoint.

thanks guys.

yeah only 1 gfx card atm but might want to add another one later, I like to keep my options open! As for the fault in my system, yeah the screen goes blank and then the whole system freezes so doubt it's the cable, though it actually hasn't done it since i took out the ram oddly enough but meh it's just really an excuse to upgrade, broadwell-e wont be much better and the 5820ks atm are supposed to be good clockers!
