I recently had a new PC built. Eveything was fine for 2 weeks. Now the PC only boots on second boot. First boot it shuts down. Second boot it fires up ok and has no issues.

Should I be worried?

I have tried reseting the bios and also updating the bios to the latest version. Eveything is at stock. I have also done a memory test and found no issues. Temps are good even under a stress test.

Specs are

I7 6700k
Noctua NH-D15
Asus GTX 980 strix
16GB DDR4
Asus Essence STX II 7.1
Samsung SM951 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe
Asus Maximus VIII Hero Intel Z170
Dark Power Pro 11 850W Power Supply
Case Fractal Design Define XL R2 Black Pearl
Pioneer DVR-221 DVD burner

My old pc used to do this often and the only thing I could put it down to was the overclock. Once the memory was set at default I don't think it happened again. Is your memory set to the correct timings?

This double booting happens when theres a config change (say, you move the gfx card to a diff slot) as well. Not sure how that would relate though.

How about : Is the boot drive set to ACHI in the bios? If not this will cause a failed boot (sorry I can't remember the exact field) - my bios defaults to the wrong setting which caused me a headache when I first got it - click it to ACHI and its fine.

Thanks. I will check the ACHI setting. The weird thing is I didn't make any bios changes before this started happening. The PC was fine for about 17 days after it was built and then the second boot thing started.
