Pretty much as title says....

When I push the power button the pc fires up (fans, lights etc) but switches itself off after about 3 or 4 seconds....doesnt make it as far as POST screen and there are no beep codes.

Its my old system that I built in 2007 which my girlfriends little brother has now inherited for school work and web browsing (specs below)

Just wondered if anyone has encountered this problem before and what the culprit / fix was???

Specs:

AMD FX-62
Asus Crosshair Motherboard
4 Gb corsair xms ram
8800GTX
500Gb HDD
2x DVD Drives
Creative X-fi sound card
Tagan 700w PSU
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case

Any help is appreciated! ;)

Had this exact same problem a few weeks ago.

The CMOS reset fixed it. :)

Good luck!

Try resetting the CMOS by removing the battery for 10-15 minutes.
This worked on an old system of mine although that was intel
Worth a try :)

This but 5 mins should be enough, if you dont have battery then use the jumper

edit , just read you tried this my bad :P,

have you got the right boot sequence?

i did have a old pc that did this and it turned out to be my PSU , have you got a spare one to see if it starts up?

Tried the usual of taking out a RAM stick and using just one, then if it still does it, with the other? All non-essentials drives disconnected / And assume that you have checked everything is all seated properly in its slots / CPU cooler has good contact / Both power cables are plugged into mobo?

check all the psu connections unplug and reset also remove all your usb hubs devices that are not needed and try that as a last resort try reseating the gpu and cpu again all worth a try

Would an incorrectly seated CPU or GPU cause this issue; I thought it would at least make it as far as the POST screen if there was a problem with RAM, GPU or CPU??

all worth a try maybe there is an iffy contact i had a total black screen for a while popped the cpu out reseated it worked forst time so i wouldnt discount anything just throwing ideas against the wall as its easy to miss something..
