As title.

Aware of the fan boy approach but I'd like a serious conversation if that is at all possible.

I'm toying between getting a new PC or a Mac and I am leaning towards the mac because of the 'security' of it... however I am not sure if that is due to there being less mac vs pc and technically they're the same in the security department.

Any thoughts on this? People say Mac doesn't need an anti-virus.

I've tried a mac, something about it feels very ipad like... single task only. I am finding it difficult to feel free/multi-task if that makes any sense at all? It feels very good like an ipad for a single task. I have tried the macbook pro and the iMac.

My biggest concern is security -- I use the pc like a normal person, no dodgy websites etc.... I am wondering if the flexibility of windows leaves it a bit more vulnerable though.

Also would you say a mac is more optimised than a PC?

Any comments appreciated.

I have a windows pc and up until recently had a MacBook Air.
What are you planning to do with the computer you get?
Touch wood, I’ve never had any security issues with a windows pc.

PC is fine if you don't go out your way to get illegitimate content.
Even the Mac guys bore run an AV.

Any reason for not considering Linux?

This. Get the hardware that you desire, and take security into your own hands. Linux is inherently more secure in its structure (though Windows is catching up with proper file/system permissions). There are still antivirus software available for Linux, etc etc.

Linux can be configured to feel similar to Windows, similar to Mac, or anything you like really. Customizing my desktop environment so I have my taskbar, applications, and open windows where I want them, improved my comfort and workflow no end.

It's free to try it!

Anecdotally there are more threats in the Windows domain due to it's ubiquity, especially in many business environments.

Though if you state exactly the kind of things that you will be doing on your computer then you will get more specific answers. I wouldn't exclude Linux from your reckonings but it is important to state the range of things you will be doing.
