I've got some cash burning a hole in my pocket and its either going on an O/C system+TFT (£1k) from OcUK or an iMac (£1100 with 4gb).
Thing is I already have a decent Laptop which is a couple of years old so if I did buy a PC the lappy would become pretty much redundant as the times I need to take it out of the house are few and far between nowadays.

In an ideal world I would have bought an O/C system and then a Macbook...problem is my budget won't stretch that far....

I guess I'm after a bit of advice or someone to tell me I'm being daft and forget the crazy apple darkside talk!

I'd mostly be using both/either for 'some' gaming, mostly online stuff EVE, WoW (now and again), Warhammer (when released) with some drawing/drafting packages for work (yet to look into how well they work on a Mac)

Anyone want to throw their ideas into the melting pot?

Cheers

Build your own. You could build a capable system for less cash and still have lots of upgrade options down the line. Something you cant get with a mac! Although they certainly do have an appeal

Personally, I would go for the iMac, as the screen is of far better quality than can be achieved with a £1K PC budget.

However, if you were to go for the PC, does the require an OS, keyboard, mouse in the spec?

It really depends on what, specifically, you want to do with your new machine. The iMac is perfect for media applications (DVD encoding) and for watching films and web browsing...but then you could do those things on a £400 PC too.

Mac OS is better than Vista and the Mac will less stressful to use (in general) and come with a full warranty as opposed to a collection of multiple warranties for the PC.

At £1100 with 4GB of ram i presume the OP is considering the 20" iMac, and the screens in those are nothing compared to the 24". They're TN for a start.

Found this:

I'm assuming the OP needs everything. You could knock down the GPU aswell, seeing as games aren't a priority.

Get your self an iMac, 24" would be my choice with the 2.8GHz processor with the 8800GS you can buy 4GB of ram from overclockers. The ram it's self is very very simple to install, with an iMac of that spec it should handle WoW and Eve with ease.

If you find you need to run windows apps take a look at VMware fusion, it will allow you to run Windows XP or Vista inside of OSX. You can run Bootcamp aswell which allows you to run Windows nativley on the iMacs hardware, so basically you would be running Windows like you would on a normal PC.

I suggest go to your nearest apple store and take a look at the iMacs and use OSX for a little while in the shop and decide from there.

Cheers for the replies guys :)
I have built all my previous machines myself, this time I just wanted less hassle researching parts, checking compatibility and not having to worry about RMAs etc etc. My laptop can do pretty much all I need from a PC.

I think I'm trying to think of a reason NOT to buy a Mac, I've never owned one, only had a play with an ibook a few years ago. I'll have to hop on over to Manchester and check out the hardware in store.

Ta for the tip on the RAM

Yep you should just go to the Apple store and have a feel with the Macs.
It's all really personal preference tbh.

If you are more of a designer I would go with the iMac, but if you would like to really use something that is built by yourself - go with the PC. On both computers you will be able to do the same things more or less.[not neccessarily gaming on Mac].
