I have experienced this problem before, until now I have just walked away and left my PC too it. This afternoon I decided to install some games back onto my PC after a recent Windows re-installation.

The first game I pick up is Bad Company 2. Stick it in the drive, click run, enter serial number and click go. Whilst this is installing, I thought I would upload some photos and browse the net but no, my PC wasnt having any of it.

Folders were hanging when navigating through them, firefox was hanging, it was slow catching up when typing and generally just acting like I would expect a 10 year old machine to act.

The game itself didnt take long to install at all and as soon as it finished, the PC was fine again. What in Gods name is this all about, I've got a 1k + machine and its acting like a spoilt brat.

Spec:

AMD 965 BE @ 3.8 GHZ, 4 GB Corsair Dominator DD3, Asus Crosshair III, Crossfire 5870's @ stock.

Help, thanks.

your trying to read of a HDD that you are writing too i am guessing. it cant do everything at once :P no matter how much you spend.

only way to avoid that would be a seccond HDD for your games / documents. and just have the OS on the one HDD

odds are when istaling from a disk it will be hammering the HDD as it is going max write speed writing the data onto it. so when you ask it to read other stuff, i.e. open up internet browser / flick through photo's it will take a lot longer than usual if they are both on the same HDD
