Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H 780G Socket AM2+ onboard VGA 8 channel audio mATX Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3GHz) Socket AM2 L2 2MB (2 x 1MB)
Coolermaster Silent Pro 500W Modular PSU

I have been having several power cutoffs since installing the 4850 card to my HTPC setup. Most recently this was during a game of Fallout 3, the power cuts off and I have to wait a short while before Im able to power it back on again. The card is running at default speeds, Ive installed the very latest CCC driver.

I also run 4 x HDDs in the unit, and have 4GB ram installed on a Vista OS.

Ive never had these problems until I installed the card, can anyone advise how to troubleshoot the power issue? The Coolermaster 500W PSU should be enough for this shouldnt it?

using coretemp on my idle pc

core 0 - 38-40C
core 1 - 47-50C

4850 - 37C,

i havent enabled manual control of the fan and overdrive isnt enabled either, im not overclocking anything

50C quite hight for idle. Play Fallout 3 and then minimise and see what your temps are then.

Mines not set to manual either. I have unlocked the overdrive but not clocked anything

What your PSU brand and powersupply?

Some googling of identical problems suggested power supplies - 500w would be enough I would have thought unless faulty power supply.

Have you made sure all power cables on mobo and card plugged in securely again.

Have you put in old graphics card to confirm issue only happens with 4850?

Ill pull the comp out again to double check, but I was using onboard gfx before the 4850 and it was always fine, never seen this issue before. The 4850 uses a 6 pin connection from the PSU, my cable had 8 pins on it but it fitted fine using 6 of them, I thought that would be ok.
