Just a quick question - are there any bios settings that can limit the power consumption of a PC when it's not doing something taxing?
I already have my screen set to go off after 10 mins of inactivity, and the CPU and video card fans are adaptive (ie they speed up when the temperature increases), and I have a fan controller to keep my dual 12 cm fans running nice and slow, but is there any similar setting for things like CPU speed, memory speed, video card core speed/memory speed etc?
Just seems a little unnecessary to have my CPU running at 3.2 GHz when browsing the web. There's a setting called CPU throttling in the bios, but I believe that only comes into effect when the fan fails and the CPU overheats IIRC.
Board is skt 478 asus P4C800 /w P4 3.2 HT btw. Just seems the sort of technology that should be built into all board these days.
Cheers
