PC powering on problem

I've just been handed my friends PC which seems to be broken.

A little background to the situation. Before he went on holiday for a week he unplugged his PC from the mains. After coming back on Sunday he plugged the computer in, powered it on, fans start up but nothing else, but no image on monitor.

My first guess is the power supply or motherboard, is this correct? Are there any other things i should be investigating? Has anyone else faced a similar problem?

Have you cleared the cmos? Flat battery could have messed up the settings... Although it does normally revert to failsafes, but its an idea anyway
