PC Powering up... but only on its side ?!

Hi

I've just purchased and installed an HIS 3870 X2 (which I've currently managed to get working absolutely fine - using 2 6 pin PCIE power connectors...)

As I'm sitting here typing this my machine is on its side (tower case) and of course working fine. The minute I try and stand it upright the power dies.... If I try and boot with the PC standing up, it does a bios check and then dies the ASUS LCD poster I have gets to USB_Final or sometimes COUNT_MEM or even DET_IDE and then the machine dies.

This seems to suggest a loose connection somewhere, but where? I've tried the usual culprits like ATX 12V connectors, and Power Cables to motherboard/Hard Disk etc but thay all seem to be in tight.

The only thing I can think of is that I knocked the CPU heatsink loose when I was rerouting cabling in my PC (previous gfx card did not require own power connector so had them tucked away) and in reseating it I'vre put it on a different way round (stock intel press through holes thing) It still functions though so I doubt that could be it.

Anybody got any suggestions as to what to check/change? I'd like to put my PC back on its stand rather than have it in the middle of the floor, but it wont power up correctly in an upright position...

Is this a PSU problem do you think? (OCZ 850 Game Xstream or whatever its called)

This is a new one to me and I've been doing this a while

PS Motherboard is an Asus blitz Formula, latest bios etc.

Am asking on here cos I'm absolutely knackered lifting and laying PC (its rather heavy):D

Running like a sewing machine ATM (on its side) lol..

cheers

Andrew

No I haven't and I was hoping it wouldnt come to that as I don't really feel like stripping the PC, although I guess if I must I must.

OMFG Lol... was at about my wits end, but decided to take the Intel heatsink off and turn it round the right way... lo and behold PC is now right way up and running :D

Now all I have to do is put my SCSI card back in, reconnect a fan and it can go back on the stand...

Knew it had to be something simple, but am tired so not thinking properly lool

I don't think the stock Intel HSF has to be mounted a particular way round? The 1 I have looks pretty much the same from all 4 sides, glad you got it fixed anyway :)
