PC powering up from sleep mode of it's own accord

Hi,

I've only noticed this issue start occurring today and can't recall it happening before now (though I've only had this system up and running for about two weeks, it's still pretty much brand new) but whenever I put the PC into sleep mode it will stay 'asleep' for about ten minutes or so but then it will start up again of it's own accord.

I looked up what devices were allowed to power the PC up again from sleep mode in command prompt and the only things listed were the keyboard, mouse and ethernet ports and so I disabled both the mouse and ethernet ports from allowing the system to power back up, the only thing enabled now is the keyboard. I also checked command prompt for the system wake information, basically telling me what woke the system up the last time it happened but it is showing nothing there (none of the devices I mentioned).

This is still happening, even after disabling the listed devices from powering the system up, and I haven't installed any new software or have anything running that could cause this so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what is causing this problem.

Any suggestions?

Go in to device manager and find your network adapter, right click and hit properties, then look on the power management tab. Un check "Allow this device to wake the computer".

Worth a shot.

I've already done this, there are two ethernet ports on my motherboard, an Intel one and a Realtek one, I've disabled 'Allow this device to wake the computer' on both of them and it's still happening.

There are a number of things that can cause this, its just a process of elimination. What USB devices do you have plugged into the computer?

This can be a PITA to diagnose. I found that my logitech k400 was waking it up. Then something else started doing it, so I stopped letting my PC sleep. I just shut it down now.

Call Sam and Dean Winchester.

Seriously though, do you have something bridging the power switch? Any loose wires?

The only USB devices plugged in are my keyboard and mouse.

Also, there are no loose wires within the system, it's been fine since I built it about two weeks ago, I've not noticed this issue occur before today.

Mine is related to a powered USB hard drive being plugged in, it prevents sleep and wakes it if I manually sleep it.

Try eliminating 1 thing at a time, sleep without LAN connected. Or with mouse/keyboard disconnected and see if that makes a difference.

You haven't said what OS you are using. Windows 7 or 8? There are settings in both that allow the system to serve media, this can cause the system to fail to go to sleep and stay there.

Also check task scheduler for Google update, media centre update and even gforce experience tasks which can wake your computer.

What OS are you on? Windows 8 task scheduler has an area that wakes a computer from sleep to do required maintenance - maybe that's glitched?

If that has happened the only proper way to remove it is to disable it via SYSTEM, Admin isn't high enough to remove windows 8 maintenance fully...

Funny enough, my new PC started to wake randomly on its own. It was fine for about 5 days and I've been tweaking it ever since (only had it 2 weeks).

I've fixed it now but I cant remember what I did to fix it on mine. However, my bro just told me he has the same issue on his PC, although his instantly wakes from sleep. Everything to wake the computer in the bios was disabled, I eventually disabled (in device manager) one by one, both his NIC's, that didn't fix it, and then both the keyb and mouse. Now it stays in sleep mode.... :)
