PC powering up on its own

I have a system that I built 2/3 years ago and when it is turned off it will intermittently power itself up to some degree. When the PC is off you expect the red LED on the motherboard to be lit, however every so often it will just power up all the fans at slow speed. The speed of the fans will vary a bit then everything will come to a halt again. The boot sequence is not initiated with no post beeps and the monitor gets no signal. I can't tell if the HDD is being spun up or not.

I would like to be able to stop this as it is just wasting power. I have taken to switching it off at the wall but that is a pain as I then cannot make use of WOL from the laptop to RDP onto it.

I figure it must be a fault with the motherboard somewhere. Any ideas?

It is a Abit NF7-S2 board with Antec powersupply.

Cheers
