PC Powers Down

Whilst Playing a Game or working the machine hard (Video Processing), my machine randomly turns off - It does not reboot. It powers down and has to be switched off on the PSU and on again.

Im thinkining this is PSU related as its the obvious choice, anythng else I should look at?

Athlon XP 2800+
1 Gig Ram
Radeon 9800 Pro
Asus A7n8xe Deluxe Board

PSU is 550W - So i dont think its a lack of power...

as it only happens when under load could it be under a heat problem and its shutting down to save itself. anyideas what temps are ?

Yup, me thinks that sounds like a severely overheating CPU.

PSU or RAM - you'd generally notice instability
GPU - normally a complete lock up
CPU - protection kicks in, and and PC goes into scared mode

even if it does have a good brand chances are it could be on its last legs, but like said above look into temp monitoring, problem could be one of afew.

yep - was temp... shyould have seen the dust build up.... managed to drop idle temp 35C...
