First of all..Hi! Never really posted here before because I never had a valid email address (until now muahaha) and I figured what better place to ask about my PC problem than here!
So let me begin... I brought a new PC the other day (Student loan well spent) and it has the following specifications.
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Core2duo E6850
Asus PK5-E/wifi
4gb RAM (4 x 1gb OCZ DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 CL 4-4-4-15 PLATINUM XTC)
BFG 8800GTX OC version 768MB
Corsair VX550w
2 x 250gb Seagate 7200.10 HDDs in RAID0
1 x 500gb Western Digital HDD (cant remember exact model, was in this week only the other week)
SonyNEC SATA-DVDRW
Antec P182 case
The problem I am having is it seems to be extremely sensitive to any kind of setting change and it's a bugger to get it back working again.
For example, on that Asus AI Suite program there is that AI Booster option. When I enable that and restart my computer, it doesn't actually shut off, the monitor loses the signal but everything seems to carry on spinning inside the PC and when I turn it off/on I don't get a signal on the monitor and the graphics card fan starts to spin a lot faster than it normally does.
I eventually realised how to fix it, I'm not sure what specifically to do to get it to work but I just kinda fiddle around with the RAM modules, take a few out, try again, shove some back in etc and eventually it decides to start working again (Usually with 1 module in, sometimes 2) then after that I can shut down the PC and put the rest of the modules in and it's happy with me again.
Now after fiddling around abit I've noticed that if I try to enable that AI booster with just 1gb of RAM installed (the one 1gb module) it works perfectly, no troubles at all.
The AI Booster is just an example of what sets this off by the way, there are other situations where this exact thing happens such as when I updated the BIOS it did it.
...
Right now I just did some more tests by putting each module of RAM in the PC individually and starting up to see what happened.
The first stick loaded up fine, no issues at all.
The second stick did all the start up stuff but Vista never loaded, just had a black screen.
Third stick had same results as second.
Fourth stick got to the Vista loading screen then BSOD!
Then I put the first stick in and it started up fine again. So it does seem to be a RAM issue, just a weird one that I don't really understand.
Because it's quite a weird problem it was abit awkard to put into words and explain (I'm pretty bad at explaining at the best of times) so if you need any more details just ask, but does anybody have any suggestions!?
