pc problem - help

hey guys n gals... got a problem with the pc which is so bad i can't do anything with it.

symptoms are: was resetting when windows boot screen came up. did it everytime.

what i've done - cleaned pc thinking it was a heat issue. no effect. decided it must be a corrupted installation so format and reinstall... wouldn't install cleanly at any point. random crashes so did chkdsk but wouldnt complete that either as it said the hard drive was corrupted.

i'm thinking it's a hard disk failure, is there anything else it could be before i spend money?

I'd say chkdsk telling you that your HD is corrupted is pretty final. Those things usually have long warranties though, sure you can't just RMA it?

it's over 5 years old. to be fair it's lasted quite a long time and is about the only part left out of the original build over 5 years ago!

sounds like a new drive is required then.

you never know, i may get lucky and be able to access the 2nd partition off hte old one which contains a lot of my downloads/manuals etc which like a dick i didn't back up.
