ok for a long while my main pc has been crashing in the middle of games, as in hard switch off, and has been freezing up whenever rtansfering large files (over 50mb) from any storage, usb, hd, optical, or even to said devices. This understandably was causing me some grief as I couldnt narrow down the problem. I tried checking ram, swapping ram, new gfx card, psu, etc. Finally I got annoyed enough today to swap my motherboard and procassor with another one.

This has completely solved all of my problems and nothing goes wrong any more. Same ram, gfx, psu etc on this setup, just differnet mobo and cpu.

Problem i have now is that either the mobo or the pcu must be faulty, but how do I narrow it down more? Or do I jsut rma both? On top of this, its taken me so long to narrow down the problem is it too late to rma? I got the cpu 1st april, and motherboard 2nd april.
AMD Phenom Quad Core 9500 2.20GHz
Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 AMD 770 (Socket AM2)

and IF by some miracle I can rma this stuff would there be any way to swap them for a cheeper intel mobo and the q6600, as I have since heard a lot of bad stuff about the first generation Phenoms and built in errors...

Well, aside from trying the mobo and CPU individually, you can only make an educated guess. A mobo is more likely to fail than a CPU, so I'd go for the mobo being dodgy. The crashes during file transfer point to this as well.

yeah thats what I was expecting.I went through any numbe rof things though trying to find the problem. Meh. cant try the cpu anywhere else as needed the new mobo to get it.
