Hey,

The other day I installed some new RAM, when It came to turning the PC on everything was fine and XP began to load.

I noticed after 10 minutes :( there was a problem, as XP was still loading. Eventually after 2 hours of trying, XP loaded, and I logged onto my account, which took 15 minutes. Ever since then I've had nothing but trouble.

When I am playing music, it will suddenly start to Stutter and then the whole system will crash . I can't really do anything, with out the system crashing!

Any ideas on what could be the problem?

Thanks,

Matt.

I don't suppose you still have your old RAM? Have you tried running the system with that rather than the new ram to see if the problem still occurs?

Another thing you could try is running Memtest 86+ i think its called, and see if it comes up with errors on your new ram.

The problem........is almost certainly with your RAM ;)
Download memtest.
By the sounds of it your RAM was dead on arrival, so just return the memory to whoever you bought it off.

However there is more than the one scenario..... if you have another 2gb of RAM in your computer and the RAM uses a different chip type (say a micron chip) to your original chip then they are probably having incompatibility problems.

The slots youve put the memory in could be broken on the motherboard, try testing each pair of ram individually with memtest. In each set of slots.

You could have simply not put the memory in properly.....my friend did this, simply didnt press it in well enough and was having lots of problems.

Well theres a list of potential problems :P Best method is to individually test each set of sticks with memtest in different scenarios. Good luck :)

Also, if you could state what MB, RAM types, etc it may be easier to do an exact diagnosis.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the replies.

I have tested the ram, and 1 stick is faulty. I have 2GB ram running atm and the problem still stands, so could it be the motherboard?

Mobo: Abit QuadGT
RAM: Crucial 2GB PC2-5200 667MHZ.

Thanks,

Matt.

Hi,

I can't even get XP to start loading now, I get a message saying "Disk Read Error" does this mean the HD has gone aswell?

Thanks,

Matt.
