Hi guys
I'm having a problem with my pc, one of my sons uses it for playing world of warcraft, and it has coped well, but recently the screen would go blank,(the monitor dosen't go to sleep) or the scene showing at the time would freeze, and the sound would play the same thing continuously, then it needs to be rebooted. It happens randomly, and could run a day or two without issue, or it could happen twice in a hour.
Not sure what would cause this, but was thinking if anything would need replaced, and if so maybe upgraded.

spec is
mobo is MSI K9AG Neo2-Digital
Graphics radeon x1950 pro
cpu AMD athlon 64 X2 dual core 5000+ 2.6 ghz
2gb corsair ram
vista 32 bit
power supply blue storm 2

Any advice appreciated

Regards

The PSU sounds like a cheap nasty make which could course problems.

Try running some stability software like Prime 95 and 3D Win mark to test the gpu.
Download mem-test and create a bootable ISO on disc to check your system ram.

Is there any possibility of testing the parts in another system.

I would check temps first and see if there's any dust build up inside. How long have you had the system for? A fresh install of Windows can do wonders.

PSU is about a year old and made by FSP, reviews about it were good, i cleaned out the case and components with compressed air a few months ago and reseated the graphics card, as the problem was happenning then.
This seemed to cure it until it recurred in the last few weeks.
I built the system probably about 3 years ago, the graphics card was second hand from ebay.
Also when it is booting up it spends a long time on the motherboard screen if thats relevant.
If I do a complete backup and reinstall windows, would this help, or would the backup keep the problem.

Regards

Sounds like the psu to be honest have any of you friends got a reliable one and like RJC said test it under prime 95 and furmark to see if it isn't failing.

Hi guys
I've been running prime95 for the past half hourand everything seems ok so far, I have resource monitor open but I'm not really sure what I'm looking for.
Any advice

Regards

I ran this test all night and it didn't report any problems.
I also checked the temps in the bios,
CPU 46c
System 41c
Does this tell me anything?

Regards

Memory and CPU should be fine if you ran it all night then. The temps looks ok as well, assuming you've checked the temperature while Prime is running.

I would try and run Furmark, this will stress the GPU and should help see if this is the problem. You only need to run this for about 15 minutes. If it passes then I guess a fresh install of Windows is the best to do seeing the system is 3 years old. Backing up your personal files won't keep the problem so don't worry about that.

I do however, have a feeling the PSU might also be the fault...

I have just ran furmark, and after about 25 minutes the graphics started to pixilate, got so bad that i could hardly read anything on the screen.
Do you think this means that the graphics card is Knackered?

Regards

Thanks for your help m8, what gpu would you reccommend to go with my setup, or would i need to upgrade more than the gpu?

Regards

try applying a fresh thermal paste first before buyimg a new one, your x1950 is more than enough for wow.my onboard amd 4250 can even run wow at 1280x1024 although at lowered details.
