Hi guys

My PC has started to emit an electrical burning smell. It does smell a little like a burnt out capacitor from my electronics days but visually they all seem fine.

What is happening?

1) The PC emits the smell
2) After around 3 to 4 mins the PC shuts down.
3) If I leave it alone after a further 3 to 4 minutes it will reboot by itself and so on.

What have I checked so far?

1) All fans appear to be spinning at full speed
2) The mother board light stays on after the PC has shut down
3) The PC beeps once when it is booting

Are these symptoms of an obvious fault or wll it be a case of replacing components untill the problem goes away?

Thanks guys

Marvlin

The dreaded electrical burning smell, first thing I'd think to check is power supply may have a fault, do you have a spare PSU to test with? If not I guess you could try removing all unneeded components to lower the load on the PSU and see what happens.

I'd also recommend having a sniff to try and pinpoint where it is coming from

Never mind, I think I have found the problem.
My Power supply fan had stopped turning.
I've just manually span it and it has fired up but is very noisy.

This is an Antec 1000W PSU. Is it possible to change these fans or is it a new power supply required?

Okay guys, I'll get on the interweb and read up on it before get my screwdrivers out. Thanks for the quick responses chaps.

From some quick searching, if you have the Antec 1000W High Current Pro then it looks to be a Delta AFB1312M-SM02 inside, can't seem to find much information on things like CFM and etc, is best to get one as close to it or better just so you're sure your PSU isn't going to be smelling any time soon

Okay cool. Thanks for looking into it Silenced, much apreciated sir.

First Warranty, if it smells it might be too late already
before you purchase a fan open the bad boy up and check for well grilled components
