Hi

I bought this i7 bundle over a month ago which at the time stated it was pre-overclocked to 3.8Ghz. However it only came with the instructions to do so.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-000-OB

When i first overclocked it to 3.8Ghz there were no problems for the first few week but then I had a few issues with booting the PC. A few times it went back to its normal clock speed but in games and on prime after I restarted back to 3.8Ghz it was stable with no problems. Sometimes it would randomly say last boot attempt failed and wants me to either continue or restore default even though there was no problem with the previous boot.

Temps are about 70C when running prime or benchmarks

I then upgraded my graphics card to a 4870x2 and since then have had quite a few problems. First time round when I tried to install the drivers it kept crashing so i had to use a custom install and then it worked. However when i restarted the screen it stayed black, so I restarted a few times and it booted up with the screen working. I unistalled the drivers and installed the latest drivers from ATI (9.2) from the website directly. This sorted the problem for a few days, but now im having quite a few problems.

When i start 1 of 3 things happens:
1 the screen stays black with the monitor not detecting any input
2 the pc starts with its normal clock of 2900mhz
3 it starts fine

i have now have the pc running at 3.6ghz but hasnt changed anything.

Is this a motherboard or a GPU problem? Im not an expert when it comes to comptuters but im keen to learn :)

PSU should be fine. I take it you have the latest bios for your motherboard?

Have you tried running the system at stock speeds?

yea tried running it at stock speeds and it made no difference, ah i will check the version of the bios and try that. That was something I was getting round to doing but totaly forgot till you just mentioned it.

i have version 08.00.15 in bios

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en-us/t-power/driver.php?S_ID=390 this is what i found on their website

but i dont really have a clue what to do lol

is there a way in windows to double check what version of the bios i have?

i had windows tell me that its the graphics card drivers that are causing the issue, ive reinstalled them 5 times and its still happening

is there a 'best' way of doing it? or does it meant the card is faulty?

What version of windows are you using ? have you installed the correct version of drivers for your os?
There have been known issues with changing from nvidia to ati driver , there is a section on the forum about it somewhere check it out see if anything relates to your problem.
