Over there...
I bought some 200mb powerline adapters, but still cant seamlessly stream 1080p MKVs.

It may be a transcoding thing, which i'll investigate (using PS3 media server on a Q6600 @ 3.2GHz & 8GB RAM) but it would be helpful to know what sort of transfer speeds the setup is capable of?

any tips?

Copy a file to it from your PC and measure the time etc?

You can setup your PC as a webserver easily enough. Also I think any files you can see through your Media Streaming can be copied to the PS3 by pressing Triangle? You could time that as well?

I am gonna try it, but I think that is the easiest way to see what sort of transfer speed you are getting.

well, i did think that, but wasnt sure how accurate it would be...

have since tried to connect my lappy up to the other end of the powerline bridge and am trying to use some proper network software - will report back

I was finding it quite difficult to stream to my Xbox 360 at 1080P via powerline adaptors... My wiring was pretty poor so my actual throughput was considerably lower, somewhere in the 90-100mbps rather than the 200mbps and that caused the whole thing to unsync a lot.

having tested it with a file transfer to a laptop i'm getting around 20mbps - way to go for overstating a products performance

Still it MAY be serviceable if i use the transcoding setting to limit to 15Mbps fr 1080p video (but i fear at that limitation it probably wont be proper 1080p?)

Ouch!!! Deffo must be the Powerlines unfortunately. After doing this thread I tested my wired connection copying files from a NAS to the PS3 and I got about 80MBPS throughput on the 100MB LAN connection and about double that when I set to 1000MB.

The problem with powerline is:

a) It is very expensive for what it is (imo)
b) Your internal electrical wiring is very important and, sadly, is the thing you have least control over.

Isn't 20mbps enough for streaming 1080p content?

I tested my wireless connection and I transferred a 8GB file (movie >2 hours) in an hour which is ~18mbps

Maybe the transcoding itself is the limiting factor?
