hey guys,

ok so, i recently purchased a ps3 and i have it hooked up to my dell monitor (only has dvi+vga input, no audio). So to get sound, i plug the red and white leads into an rca adapter with a female to female coupler then just wack the pc speaker jack into the end. Heres a pic http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s318/King-Cheung/Image061.jpg .

It works great, i'm having no problems getting sound from my ps3 but after a few days of playing the ps3, i'm getting rather irritated by switching the speakers to my pc/ps3 everytime..

Is there an easy way to have them hooked up all in one, so i won't have to keep getting on my knees and messing with the cables each time? Theres probably a really easy way but i just can't get my head around it :(

Thanks in advance. :D

How about plug the PS3 output jack into your PCs line-in socket, then tell your PC to playback the line-in through the speakers? You'll have to have your PC on but it means you won't have to switch cables.

I have another plan, but i'll need a screenshot which i am currently uploading to imageshack, give me a sec

I've tried plugging the ps3 output jack into like.. all the holes at the back of the pc lol, but it doesn't seem to do anything. Where abouts on the pc would i have to set those settings? And having my pc on at the same time wouldn't really be a problem as i normally have it on 24/7 :(.

Thanks again :)

My second plan looks to be more of a hassle so i'll write that off for now...

As for the PC solution, right click on the little speaker at the bottom right of your screen. Click on 'Recording Devices'. There you'll see 'Line-in', right click on that and set as default. Then right click on it again, click properties, go to the levels tab and drag that all the way up to 100

Now get some music or something playing on your PS3, plug the speakers into your PC and then get behind your PC and switch which socket the PS3 is plugged into until you can hear the music through your speakers.

Let me know if that works, i have other ideas.

[EDIT] Oh also, make sure you go back to the playback devices tab and turn up the 'line-in' slider in the properties menu

Ah, don't have a clue there, i can only assume either the drivers aren't installed or you don't have a line-in. Are you using onboard sound or a soundcard, if so which one?

If all else fails, you need one of these:

Tis called a 3.5mm splitter. Ideally you want to plug the PC audio out and PS3 into the two female connectors, then hook the speakers up to the male connector. You'll need a few extra connectors to make it fit together but it should work.

yeh, i've been messing with it for a while, actually got to the line in bit and turned the level to 100 but still no music from ps3 :(

think i'll have to opt for the splitter but would this splitter work also?

plugging the speakers into the female end, then 1 jack into the pc and the other jack into ps3/rca adapter? i think it would need fewer cables if it were to work, let me know :)

thanks
