PC PSU kaput?

Hey,

I just had my PC shipped over from the UK to the US, and I think the power supply has gone kaput! It's an auto-switching 100V-240V unit (Seasonic X750) so should work fine. However, when I turn the machine on it just repeatedly makes a clicking sound, and the CPU fan spins on for an instant:

I tried removing everything from the case and onto a wood panel, in case it was a grounding issue. I also tried powering up just the PSU (with the paperclip trick), but nothing spins up at all when I do that - just the clicking sound.

So do you guys think that the PSU kicked it, or have I missed something else obvious?! The PC was working perfectly when I used it over Christmas, so I don't know how this could have happened...

Cheers,

Su

2nd edit :p

Sometimes the psu needs a load to start and the fan can only come on when needed, try with just a fan connected to one of the molex connections.

Another option is do a cmos reset.

Hey,

Yeah it's an 80+ Gold, so the internal fan never comes on until 20% load I think. But I tried outside the case with a couple of case fans connected and the "jump start" trick - still no dice :(

Pretty sure it's dead... annoyingly just a few months out of warranty :(

Cheers,

Su

Only just got back round to dealing with this... any other suggestions please?

If not, I'm going to try and pick up another PSU tomorrow and cross fingers that it works...!

Cheers,

Haha yeah, and old DFI X38... still going strong (for now!).

Seems to all be working fine now... had several cold boots and restarts, installed 2 years worth of Windows updates, and did a few hours of gaming as well!
