looking for some good pc racing games that have good online play available. Just don't know whats a good'en and what isn't :(

some help would be appreciated.

Rfactor.
Live for Speed.
GT legends.
GTR.

and Richard burns Rally for the best single player rally/driving game bar none.

GTR and GT Legends, two superb racing games. GT Legends is the one to get to start as it has a much friendlier learning curve compared to gtr. Both games have good online communities, if you ever play gtr online don't take it personally if someone rams you during the qualifying or warmup, most players have a great sense of humour and fun and don't take things too seriously, which suits a game that is pretty demanding in terms of skill and concentration.

GTR is jut SO good. Spa is amazing. I played it after actually being there in October last year and my jaw just dropped, is it SO accurate.

An oldie but VERY goodie is Grand Prix Legends. The physics model is accurate - you may have guessed I like accurate simulations over "arcade" driving games ;)

Ive always found PC racing games sub standard to console games. They never feel right on the PC.

What kinda racing game you after? If your just after something which is pick up and play and can play with a pad then Toca Race Driver 3 is a good game! Easy to pick up. Has multiplayer and from what ive had a go at so far is pretty good! :)

I wont play PC racing games without my wheel and pedals, but I'll only play Sim games on the PC, none of that arcadey stuff you get on consoles like GT4 and PGR, which work fine with pads.

I find the PC racing games >> console racing games, but I like Sim driving personally.

Live for Speed for the win to be honest.

At least some have been realistic. Take a "serious" console game like GT4, the physics model is still poor; example take a big rear wheel drive car & floor it from a standstill - it will accelerate in a straight line without steering input from you. Try that for real.

Nope, I'm a PC man, even though I do have a couple of Playstation 2 titles, consoles are too arcadey for me. Each to their own though :)

Depends whether you want a proper sim or not. Consoles are ebtter for more arcadey games such as PGR3, but for a proper sim driving experience a PC cannot be beaten.

I imagine it would be different if I had a wheel and pedals.

They are expensive though (?)

I loved GT3, even though its arcady a lot of skill is needed to even get through the tests. The last test was almost impossible it took me a few days to do and nearly resulted in my console flying out of my bedroom window. I think it has just enough simulator and arcade mix to be fun and challenging and it lasts ages with all the different races. I tried GT Legends and there was no chance with a control pad, i might try a driving sim on PC with a wheel sometime though and see what the crack is.
