Random reboot suggests a couple of things:

1) Check to see if your heatsink and fan are still securely fixed to your CPU, and that all hardware (e.g. PCI cards) is sitting properly. Also check to see all your fans/cooling devices are working too.

2) If you can, do a virus/malware scan.

Cheers,

Matt :)

All fans, are working heatsink is on right.. only thing installed is graphics and thats in properly.

I did a scan first time, thinknig thats what it was, but it's all clear.

RAM is sitting ok? First thing I do in these situations is check hardware and temps.

Try disabling automatic restart so the next time it falls over, XP will give you an error message, note it down, and Google it/post here etc.

Right Click on My Computer >
Properties >
Advanced tab >
Click the Settings button under Startup and Recovery >
Remove the check from the Automatically Restart checkbox

Yup rams in fine.

ive had it same since i got it last year, just all of a sudden. i not long formatted due to this.

i turned of auto restart. guess we play the waiting game now.. :o :o

Could also try:

Checking the automatic shutdown settings in the BIOS - see if it's set at a low threshold compared to what you normally run at, surf the net/word process and game at.

Tidy up the startup apps using msconfig (Windows key + R, [type] msconfig, [enter], Startup) to weedle out a dodgy program.

But as it doesn't throw up a BSOD or error message I still reckon it's hardware/cabling etc.

Check the temp of the CPU. My dads PC used to just restart every now and again, and it turned out to be the CPU had died.

It could be a problem with your memory - try downloading Memtest (the DOS bootable version) and leave that for a few hours

You'll need to run Prime 95 on both cores - to do this install Prime 95 into two seperate directories and run the program from each directory. Set the CPU affinity so that they each use a different core - to do this, open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc together), click "Processes", select Prime95.exe, right click and choose the affinity

when i had random reboots it turned out to be a duff memory stick. run memtest overnight and see if you get any errors. if you do, and you've got more than one stick or ram test them individually.
