Hi guys, ive recently made my gaming pc with the following spec:

GA-P35C-DS3R
Core 2 Duo E6550
Sparkle 8800GT 512MB
2GB DDR2 PC2-7200 OCZ Spec Ops
36GB Western Digital Raptor
Hiper 580W Type-R

I havent overclocked any of the components yet. The pc will randomly shut down sometimes, with no warning, no error messages when starting again. Sometimes while playing crysis, sometimes when not. Im really abit confused about it. Also, sometimes when ive left it off and come to turn it on again it just wont start, no fans spin. The light on the back of the psu remains lit though, after abit of messing about flicking the swtich on the psu, unplugging from the socket etc it will eventually turn on. Possibily a faulty hiper? (argh, ive read the horror stories!)

I dont think its over heating because with the case side on the max temps (using speedfan logs) playing crysis are:

gfx 70C
Cores 63C
NB 51C

with the side off it still crashes and the temps are lower.

EDIT: Ive set the RAM voltage to the specified 2.1V

Try setting RAM to SPD speeds.Although I am sorely tempted to point the finger straight at that Hiper PSU...I've dealt with 3 recently that have failed.

im abit unsure on what SPD is but google says: serial presence detect.

I'm going to assume that what my motherboard sets it as standard? in which case yes, i have.

SPD simply means the motherboard will auto-detect all the settings from the SPD chips on the RAM.It'll be an option in the BIOS somewhere. However, you've said that's already been done.

Therefore I will confidently point my finger at the PSU :D

Buy a corsair or seasonic and marvel at the difference :D

I had this problem, and I had a Gigabyte P35-DS4 and 700W Thermaltake PSU.

I replaced the board with an Abit IP35 Pro and the PSU with a Zalman 850W PSU.

To be honest, i'd blame the Gigabyte board, there is a lot of issues with them if you google for them, not just in your case, but also cold boot issues.

Hmmmm, thinking back i did use this power supply for a month or two on my old amd 64 system, still shut down randomly like this, but that did actually have a bad stick of ram. this is doing my head in!

Hi Richbaines.

Just to let you know I solved my problem (well Heatsinked did anyway). I had to change my RAM speed and voltage and now it works perfectly. Hope this helps!
