Hi,

Today my PC has been randomly turning off, it doesn't shut down, just instantly turns off. The last time it happened 5 mins after turning it on, time before that was about 20-30 mins. This has never happened before.

- Nothing is overclocked
- It's not overheating, I checked temps

The only thing I can think of is last night for uTorrent I selected the option to shut down after downloads were complete, but when I woke up the PC was off and the downloads were at 0% still after turning it back on. Might be an error with that.

I uninstalled uTorrent, but it's still happening. Any other ideas what it could be?

Checked all electrical connections on the board.

What is the full spec of the pc including PSU, also what are the temps.

I just checked all the connections they seem fine. Spec is:

i5 760
GTX 470
ASUS P7P55D-E
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB DDR3
OCZ GameXStream 700w
Windows 7 64 bit

Temps are about 40c

The PSU is about 4-5 years old? Could be dying?

Is there any distinct noises coming from your PSU? Whistling/High pitched?

No nothing out of the ordinary. It hasn't happened for hours now, since I checked the cables and cleaned a bit of dust, it might be fixed by either the dusting, cables, or being disconnected from power for ~10 mins.

Still suspicious of the PSU though.

I also think it could be something to do with the hard drive, because I checked the system logs and saw a few errors that occured today with the following message: "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR1." but I've run HD Tune error test and it came up with nothing.. hmm.

But here's hoping it was just some dust or a loose connection.

ok the problem isn't fixed.

I thought it was the CPU overheating because I did a Prime95 test and it went to around 90c and then I stopped it and a few seconds after that it shutdown. So I ordered a new CPU cooler because I'm using stock at the moment.

But I don't think it's the CPU temp anymore. It just happened again multiple times. After the first time I turned the PC back on and monitored the CPU temp and it was at about 60c and it happened again.

Any other ideas? This is getting annoying now. It happened 3 times in a row shortly after rebooting, it will probably happen again very soon. Temps still around 60c.

edit: now 40c at idle.
