Hi all,

In 2 weeks I will be looking to gracefully retire my aging E6600 based set-up and upgrade to something new.

The PC will be used for a Mix of Gaming (usual mix of FPS / MMO / MOBA / RTS etc..) and video editing ( about 70 / 30 in terms of time)

The core of the system should look to be lasting me 5-7 years, so I would like to get as high performance as possible (hence my thinking about going for the 2133 RAM). I also need to replace my hard-drives as they themselves are 3-4 yrs old, and I will need a new case.

I am comfortable building, but old enough to want to be lazy if it is a cost efficient option to have it built for me...

I already Have
OS (win 7 - 64),
GFX (560ti-OC),
PSU ( Cooler master 600 igreen, although my slight concern is that this is nearly 5yrs old, but works fine....seemingly),
Monitors etc

My intention is to drop everything on the core now, then spend money later, upgrading the other items as time moves on.

My budget is ~£850 - £900 including shipping (&building)

My Initial thought was something like:

(Sorry I dont know how to do the clever links)

I have looked at the configurator, but I am not sure If I can delete the PSU / GFX to make it cheap enough.

Any help / advice would be very much appreciated.

Cheers

I don't think the Mount Doom cooler will fit in the 300r.

Samsung's PRO series SSD is slightly quicker than their EVO range, but they're also way more expensive. The speed difference will only be noticeable in benchmarks, and as you can get a 250gb EVO for the price of a 128gb PRO...

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £239.99
1 x Samsung 250GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE250BW) £119.99
1 x Gigabyte G1.Sniper Z87 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £109.99
1 x BitFenix Ronin Tower Case - Black £69.95
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £59.99
2 x Kingston HyperX Beast 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX24C11T3K2/8X) £45.95 (£91.90)
1 x Alpenföhn Brocken 2 CPU Cooler £38.99
Total : £740.39 (includes shipping : £8.00).

The RAM is about half price at the moment. They will sell at that price soon, so pre-order quickly if you want them. The only potential problem is that you'll have 4x4gb sticks rather than 2x8gb.

Thank you,

I assume that this assumes I apply the overclock myself? I have to confess I am less comfortable doing that than building.

Many thanks
Esr.

Get a system that allows for it then when it gets older and you need more performance or don't care about it as much overclock the hell out of it :)

Had my CPU overclocked to see what it could do but needed a lot of voltage so will hold of till it starts showing its age!
