Right, a friend bought her pc from somewhere else (Crazy concept, I know) and it started to have problems after a couple of days (serves her right I spose :p). So she rang up, they sent out a bloke to take a look and a few days later it's broke again so this time they send out a replacement pc 4 days later but they didn't take the old pc.

Basically, is there any legal time frame as to how long she should give it before she can keep it and just get it fixed by me or someone else so she has a 2nd pc that her son can use instead of them both sharing?

If it makes any difference what shop it came from then we can use 'bell' as a codeword.

Yeah that's the plan, but if she does that then they realise and come back for it, it'll be a waste of buying a new board for it or whatever needs replacing. So how long till they are unable to claim it back from her?

If they just sent a replacement out with out asking for the old PC back I would assume they think it is not worth the hassle and would probably expect her to just throw it away.

My dad had that with this high tech coffee pot he bought. Where he had bought it directly off manufacturer website they could see his order and when it broke in 2 months time they just sent him a brand new one and told him to trash the old.

Seems to me companies are finding it cheaper to replace broken electronics these days rather then having to fix them.

I would still tell your friend to give it at least 30 days or so. ( As that's the law out in The States where I am from) God forbid she got some new guy handling her case who messed up his paperwork.

If you tell them in writing then 30 days. otherwise 90.

Write to them, then just be as difficult to reach as possible :D
