Hi Folks,

I am currently having some problems with my media centre pc. I want to be able to leave it on 24/7 so when it is not in use I want it to be able to go to sleep.

When it goes to sleep the display turns of etc but for some reason the fans still stay at the same level in the case (does this mean it isn't properly asleep?).

After about 15 mins or so I hear the beep of the pc going through it's post, meaning it has restarted without being told to. I get an error message when it has restarted in windows saying and error has occurred, you can look for a solution next time you go online but there isn't much mor detail than that.

I know there isn't a problem with the hardware etc, the cpu is slightly overlocked but not by much, it works fine during use, I only have a problem with it when it is in sleep mode.

Do you think this is a hardware issue or a software issue? I have done everything I can think of like disabling automatic updates, stopping scheduled tasks, removing processes that doen't need to be running but it still happens. Do you have any suggests as to what it might be?

FYI my spec is

Windows vista 64 home premium
amd 4200+ @ 2.5ghz (never goes above 50c)
Gigabyte board with hdmi
2gb ram
500w jeantech psu.

Thanks

Matt

Sounds like it's not properly going to sleep in the first place. You probably need to change the power management settings in the BIOS. I'd bet that it's set to enter S1 sleep mode when it goes to sleep - you need to change it to S3.

I had a similar issue with a desktop, turned out to be the USB mouse (razer lachesis)... Have you got wake-on set for anything?

Try unplugging each USB device one at a time to see if it is one of those that's causing the problem. If you find one then disable the 'allow this device to wake from sleep' option in device manager.

Have think about what you might of changed since it stopped working too, maybe even look at the windows updates to see if something has been installed recently that might be giving you grief.

I've had a very similar problem with mine, since I installed the HDAV sound card, and I know how annoying it is to have a HTPC that won't sleep properly so I hope you can find a solution.
